The Black and Minority Ethnic Carers
Network provides opportunities to support Black and minority ethnic carers – and ensure that their views are reflected in policies, procedures and services.
The network is inclusive and diverse and open to all who consider themselves to be Black
or from a minority ethnic group. The term Black is used in its wide political sense, referring to those who perceive themselves as Asian, African, Caribbean,
mixed heritage and others subjected to discrimination, harassment, victimisation and to racism on the basis of their skin colour, national origin, race, nationality and ethnicity.
As well as benefiting foster carers, children and the community through representing the views of Black and minority ethnic
carers, the network promotes best practice in race equality.
The Network Aims:
The recruitment, retention and training of black carers
Meeting the personal, social, cultural, religious and placement needs of black and minority ethnic children and young people
A guide to good practice; promoting the positive cultural and racial identity of Black children.
